Learning to love music for life:
Ms. Betsy grew up in Nebraska, and though she was one of six children, her family went to great lengths to have all the kids take private music lessons. From a very young age she started piano and violin and continued through high school. In college, she found her passion for singing and theatre. She graduated with a Bachelor’s of Music in Musical Theatre from Ouachita Baptist University two years ago and followed her family here to Houston. In 2014-2015, she was Houston Family Arts Center’s Production Intern where she did everything from stage management, scenic artistry, backstage crew, acting, to music directing multiple shows and producing their Kid’s Academy spring shows and summer camps.
During her internship she found her passion of getting to help kids learn to love music and performing. Music is a beautiful way to express thoughts and feelings, whether its using your voice and speaking or telling a story through playing an instrument. Betsy loves to help her students find what they love most about music and perfect it. If they learn to love it young, they will do it the rest of their lives.
For the past 3 years she has been working with theaters across Houston, TUTS Academy and Community Engagement, and running her music studio.
